For riders with their sights set on riding in college, Dewalt Stables offers something most local barns can't: a direct line of sight into the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) through Samantha Krall's own coaching role.
In addition to running Dewalt Stables, Samantha serves as Head Coach of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Equestrian Team, an IHSA program. Like IEA, IHSA uses a catch-riding format — riders are matched with unfamiliar horses and judged on horsemanship, not the horse they showed up with — which makes the transition from our lesson and training program to college-level competition a natural one for Dewalt riders.
Training grounded in the same catch-riding fundamentals IHSA competition demands direct insight into what college coaches and IHSA judges are looking for a track record: Dewalt-trained riders have already gone on to compete for IHSA programs, including IUP's own team and other competitive programs. Mentorship from a coach who is actively coaching at the collegiate level right now — not someone recalling it from years past Thinking About Riding in College?
Whether you're a current high schooler building your equitation foundation or a rider exploring what IHSA looks like before you commit to a program, we're happy to talk through what that path looks like from here.
